Tribute from Jonas Holmberg

Dear Pipa

I am sorry for the loss of a great person. I got to know Carey on a diving vacation in Sharm el Sheik in Egypt. I think it was in 1997 or so. After that Carey took part in two sailing trips that I arranged the years after on the Swedish west coast and in the Baltic sea. We were seven guys on the boat. Christophe, Eric, Dennis, Omar, Fredrik, myself Jonas and Carey. We were all around thirty except from Carey who was sixty. But that didn’t bother him. He was just a too great person be concerned about such things. We had a very good time. It was not until today that I learned that Carey had passed away. Myself I and the whole crew on the boat want to pass our sincere condolences to you and Careys daughters.

Captain John Sutton

Tribute from John Sutton

Dear Pippa,
I was saddened to learn of Michael’s passing. We used to be great friends in the 1970’s when I was working as Master in the Isle of Wight ferries and Michael used to travel with me on the bridge. I left in 1977 to go to Saudi Arabia to become a pilot there. Later we moved to Australia where we have lived for the past 43 years. I was last in contact with Michael a couple of years ago when he was living in France. I have always had very happy memories of our time together. He was a frequent visitor to our home and we still have an ice cream scoop which he gave us and it has traveled the world with us. Our sincere condolences to you and Michael’s daughters.
